Merry Greetings and Good Day my fellow friends. It's opening day at the Maryland RenFaire and it was a glorious day indeed.

Sir Aidan's only request for the day was to partake in the delicious frozen oranges. Of which he did, three times throughout the day. It was the only thing needed to make him smile and enjoy the revelry. Sometimes the simple pleasures are the best things in life.

Of course the day wasn't officially begun until we met up with our dear friends Alice and Alan at the Woodbutchery. And of course the wenchy Alice looked as radiant and spectacular as usual. Our arrival was some what surprising this opening day as we usually have worked out a discount in tickets before our arrival. This year we decided to become season ticket holders and our arrival was unexpected. I love surprises. Especially when giving them to someone else.

Of course what's a trip to the faire without a little decoration. Sir Aidan of course chose to have a lizard upon his person once again. Last year he chose to decorate his face and allow the lizard to appear to lick his frozen orange. This year, he chose to decorate his arm and show off his whimsical side.

On this day we had a mission to achieve. We were in search of covers for our drinks. Walking around a fair tends to stir up a bit of dust and there's nothing worse than getting dust and dirt in your drink. We found what we were looking for at Goodly Woods. We like these folk and their craftsmanship is exceptional as well as beautiful.

Next to the Goodly Woods Sir Aidan discovered a presentation of Romeo and Juliet by the new playwright William Shakespeare. Oddly enough for a 5 year old, he became very intrigued by the story and we sat for quite a while as the scenes played out upon the stage. Wonderfully performed by the actors, it was indeed a good show.

In the background we heard our favorite musicians playing at the Pirate's Pub. The Rogues were entertaining in their usual wonderful flair and once again we were compelled to acquire their latest musical offering on some new fangled thing called a CD. But there's nothing like being there live, watching the show, tapping your foot and watching the children dance before the stage. There is something about that beat that just brings out the child in everyone and it's wonderful to see everyone dance and enjoy the celebration of music. If you have not seen the Rogues you really should find a performance near you and check them out. They are world champion pipe players, they've played with the United States Air Force at DAR Constitution Hall and they are just fabulous to watch.

Our next venture was to journey to the joust where the Knights of the King pitted their skills against the Knights of his new Queen. Their skill with lance, spear and target were spectacular. But their prowess upon horse with sword was even more exciting. Sir Aidan and I were more enthralled with the magnificent steads however.

Thus ended our opening day adventure. We shall return for more fun, food and magic in September.
